Ring Care Guide - Do's and Don'ts

DOs
- Clean your jewelry regularly (every 3–4 weeks) using a mild soap, warm water, and a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Inspect your jewelry for noticeable signs of wear (check for loose stones, snagged prongs, or warped bands).
- Take off your jewelry during activities that could harm it (e.g., swimming, gardening, cleaning with chemicals).
- Place your ring in a secure, padded box or pouch when not wearing it.
- Store jewelry pieces separately to prevent scratches.
- Have your ring professionally inspected and cleaned at least once a year.

DON’Ts
- Don’t sleep wearing your fine jewelry. Gold is a soft metal and can wear down over time; prongs are at risk of lifting or breaking if caught on bedding.
- Don’t wear your ring to the gym, while lifting weights, or during high-impact activities.
- Avoid cleaning your jewelry while wearing it, and keep it away from lotions, makeup, perfumes, or harsh chemicals like bleach.
- Don’t use ultrasonic cleaners or steamers unless approved by a jeweler, as they may damage certain gemstones.
- Never expose your jewelry to extreme temperature changes (e.g., hot tubs, saunas).

Special Gemstone Care Tips
- Diamonds: Though durable, they can chip if struck hard. Avoid wearing diamond rings during heavy manual work.
- Pearls: Wipe gently with a damp cloth after wear. Avoid submerging in water, as moisture weakens their luster. Keep away from acids (e.g., vinegar, citrus).
- Opals: Highly sensitive to dryness and shock. Store with a damp cotton ball in a sealed bag to retain moisture. Avoid sudden temperature shifts.
- Emeralds: Often oil-treated to enhance clarity. Clean only with a soft cloth; avoid steam, ultrasonic cleaners, and harsh chemicals.
- Turquoise: Porous and prone to discoloration. Keep away from oils, cosmetics, and direct sunlight. Wipe with a dry cloth after wear.
